The Boy Scouts of America is known for promotion of a “good turn or a good deed daily”. In the year 2004 the Boy Scouts of America have found it necessary to teach our membership to do a “Good Turn for America”. This title or program name takes deed to another level of community and patriotic service.

The Central New Jersey Good Turn Program is a collaboration of National and local agencies and organizations that have a vested interest in a healthy community! Good Turn for America participation gives credit to participants who bring a new registrant to existing educational programs. Good Turn for America participation also gives credit to those who bring members to participate in an event that includes a physical activity and an educational program all in one!

The program is designed for Scout Leaders to use the Scout Handbook and teach all the healthy living programs. These Scout lessons can then be enhanced by having the youth also attend a Good Turn Event with other family or community members not currently in the unit! The youth must desire and do their best to live a healthy lifestyle. To achieve this objective youth are educated about healthy living via a fun activity and then a seminar. However, we know parents, guardians or persons of influence over the youth must also be in agreement to the needs for a healthy life style. So the youth are credited for a “good deed” by bringing others into the education and change process to begin or improve healthy living!

Each of the partnering organizations has committed to hosting an event to help the leaders get healthy living education and programs to the Scouts and their friends.

Attend one of the numerous educational seminars offered by Hunterdon Medical System

Attend the pre game clinics offered just for Scouts by the NJ Metro Stars

•  Somerset Patriots spring Press Conference with the Central New Jersey Boy Scouts! Come exercise and meet the players, pre-game then enjoy a game!

•  Healthy Living Days hosted by the YMCA locations with “healthy” merit badge stations!

•  Pre game workouts with the Titans and concourse nutrition stations & education stations

•  Pennington Ewing Athletic Club day with events and programs all day long (guest appearances by Titan's Clash!)

•  Pre game workouts with the Somerset Patriots and concourse nutrition & education stations.

•  Attend the pre game clinics offered just for Scouts by the NJ Metro Stars

•  Monthly classes offered by the Hospitals (have Scouts and families attend as a unit activity)
