| Starting
January 1, 2004, a new council-wide accident and sickness insurance
policy will go into effect in the Central New Jersey Council. This
policy will cover every registered Scout and Adult Leader during
all of their authorized Scouting activities. Up until now individual
units could provide a short-term accident insurance through Mutual
of Omaha for their Scouts and Scouters. Once the council-wide policy
is in effect, these individual unit policies will no longer be needed.
During
the re-charter process, a $5.00 fee will be added to each youth
and adult registration, including Tiger Cub partners. This fee will
cover the entire year's policy including any new Scouts that join
during the year.
Adults
who are being encouraged to become registered leaders or Scouts
who are considering membership are automatically insured during
the recruitment meeting or activity. Non-registered family members
or guests at an activity who are not becoming leaders or Scouts
would not be covered under this plan.
If
a Scout or Scouter is injured during a Scouting event (meeting,
service project, camping trip, etc), or in travel to and from the
event, they should immediately seek any needed medical attention.
The council office should be notified as soon as possible to begin
processing any claims. (Claim form)
This
policy will cover the first $300 of any medical bills. The balance
of any medical costs would then be sent to the injured persons own
family policy. If that family policy reaches a maximum payment,
additional coverage would revert back to the council policy. This
should ensure that an individual, injured during a Scouting activity,
will not have to pay out of their own pocket for medical coverage.
